NADIR Resqship

Nadir

Since spring 2021, we have been operating a 19-meter motor glider, the Nadirhas been on the move. We use it to pursue the same operational concept as before: observing, documenting, reconnoitring – and if there is no other ship around, we help people in distress at sea, as required by international maritime law.

However, our humanitarian missions in the central Mediterranean began back in 2019 – at that time with our first ship, the JosefaUnfortunately, we were unable to be on the water the following year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, we went in search of a larger and more reliable ship – and found the Nadir!

Our goals

Saving lives

We do not want to let people fleeing across the Mediterranean die of drowning or thirst and want to alleviate their immediate suffering.

Understanding

Everyone has the right to life, to physical integrity and to practice their religion. People must not be allowed to drown in the sea because of economic interests or intolerance.

Create attention

We want to use many events to draw attention to the catastrophic situation in which people fleeing beyond Europe’s borders find themselves.

Justice

We need to raise awareness in society and politics of the links between our trade and the global migration movement. An important part of this is documenting the situation in the central Mediterranean.

Our team

RESQSHIP e. V. was founded in June 2017 by a group of people who met on a Sea-Watch sea rescue mission. The association has continued to grow through its four local groups and now consists of around 25 members and numerous other volunteers. Everyone is welcome when it comes to preventing deaths in the Mediterranean. Whether you are a landlubber or a sailor – everyone is important when it comes to tackling the diverse tasks of our association.
